HOT STONE MASSAGE
This type of massage therapy is basically recommended for persons with tough muscle pains. The hot stone massage is initiated to help soften your hard tissue knots and relieve acute-to-medium body aches.
The process: – Hot stone massage is done with already heated round-smooth flat stones made of basalt, (a type of volcanic rocks that retain heat). The stones are placed on some specific areas of the body. The stones may be placed on the unclad body of the, around the spine, stomach, chest, face(there are specific sizes for the face), palms and feet… by the masseuse to heat up those body parts before applying medium to mild massaging.
The stones are usually heated between 130 to 145 degrees, specific heat capacity that is ideal for the skin.

- Reduces stress and anxiety
- Promotes good sleep
- Boost immunity
This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long strokes in the direction of blood retuning to the heart with massage oil. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for promoting an increase in the level of oxygen in the blood stream-decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.
Deep tissue massage
Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage. But the deeper pressure applied in deep tissue massage is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of the muscle tissues.
Body steaming as a form of massage
Body steaming is a process where both men and women are seated in a steam room or sauna steam tent with a towel, for a period of 15 to 20 minutes. Steaming the body is another way to relax, unwind and clear their skin.
Steam rooms can help your heart, lungs, sinuses, muscles and mental health. This is usually found in a gym house or spa. A mobile sauna tent can also be brought to you at your home or hotel.
The temperature inside a steam room is generally between 110 and 114 with humidity level of 100 percent.
Benefits of body steaming
Relief of Tension:
A well-known fact is: heat can be of big assistance when it comes to relieving tension and pain. Heat is energy transfer; and it is great at stimulating blood supply thus delivering more oxygen and nutrients to your muscles, nerves and bones, which ultimately facilitate a healing process.
Heat causes you to sweat, therefore helps your body to eliminate toxins that may be causing your pain and stiffness.
Tension causes body stress but the good news is; visiting a steam room can help eliminate massive stress. However, a steam room can also help to relieve mental stress effectively.
Our bodies are full of adrenaline, and a stressful lifestyle can eventually cause both mental and physical health issues.
During a steam session, the body reduces production of adrenaline due to the heat present environment, thereby causing your brain to relax.
The heat and moisture in air present in a steam room secretes a hormone called endorphins.
Losing weight is a goal that many people have and if you eat right, exercise, and go into a steam room too, your chances of being successful are much higher.
The simple fact: a 30 minutes body steaming session can help you burn as much as 500 calories. Since being in steam room is almost like an exercise for your body, it also helps to increase your metabolism.
Your metabolic rate refers to how fast your body can process calories and turn them into energy instead of storing those calories as body fat.
Promotes Healthy Skin:
One of the surprised benefits you might not know about steam rooms or sweat rooms is that: they can greatly enhance the appearance of your skin. You might need to exfoliate the skin and shower after steaming for that beautiful skin glow.
Opens the sinuses:
The heat from a steam room opens up the mucous membranes, thereby enabling free passage of air through the lungs and nasal cavity.
Steam rooms will help eradicate congestion in the sinuses and lungs, therefore it is locally (applied to modern day) used to treat cold and aid breathing.
To avoid risk of dehydrating the body due to the heat, it is advisable to spend not longer than 15 to 20 minutes inside the steam room or sauna tent. It is important to drink plenty of water beforehand, as well.
Due to this extreme heat in the steam rooms, there are certain people who are advised to avoid them:
- Pregnant women
- Anyone with heart disease
- Those with very low or high blood pressure
- Anyone with epilepsy
- Those taking antibiotic
- Users of mind-altering drugs, such as stimulants, or alcohol
If someone with the listed health issues above has any concern about using a steam room, or sauna tent please consult with your doctor
